Appeal Process

The appeal process must be fair, without compromising the integrity of the assessment process. You, or your external academic partner, must allow at least seven working days from the release of assessment results for students to submit an appeal for results/awards and to release appeal results within a reasonable time from the date of appeal. 

• Students who have not passed their modules may submit an appeal for review of results using FRM-009 Results Appeal Form through the Admin Manager giving their reasons. This appeal must be submitted within 7 working days from the release of exam results, together with payment of the required fee.

• The Admin Manager passes the Appeal Form to the Academic Manager, who then appoints another marker (different from the first marker) to remark the student’s paper. The Academic Manager then submits the original mark, the student’s appeal and his reasons given, and the second mark given by the second independent marker to the Exam Board for decision.

• The Academic Manager communicates the decisions of the Exam Board on the Admin Manager, who updates the records and informs students of the outcome of their appeal.

• NYAC releases the appeal results within 15 working days from the official date of release of the exam results.

Re-test Process

Re-sitting and/or deferred sitting of assessments

• A student whose appeal is unsuccessful may apply to take a re-test with payment of a re-test fee. This application must be submitted within 1 week of the release of the appeal results.

• A student who chooses not to appeal may apply to take a re-test, with payment of a re-test fee, within 1 week of the release of the exam results.

• If the student fails the re-test, he must either repeat the module, or seek and obtain approval to take a new module, if applicable, in order to accumulate the required number of passed modules for graduation.

The procedure for the re-test follows that for the first test, with the Academic Manager in consultation with the Principal first deciding on the appointment of the teacher for the setting and vetting of the re-test, and for the marking, etc.  However due to the smaller number of students involved, it would be possible to shorten the duration of the process.
